Provisional Programme
1st DAY
Afternoon session: Introduction and overview of the training course; keynote lectures on inquiry-based science education, creativity and early years science education.
2nd DAY
Synergies between inquiry-based science and mathematics education and creative approaches in the early years: Introduction and Workshop. Methodology of curriculum design and development of curriculum principles for teacher education: Introduction and Workshop
3rd DAY
Focus on curriculum content and learning activities about science and mathematics ideas and processes of everyday activities, developing young children’s creativity and stimulating their inquiry and problem solving skills: The role of formative assessment and feedback. Hands-on Workshop and Reflection Sessions. Optional Visit to SKINAKAS Observatory.
4th DAY
Visit to a non-formal learning setting (Natural History Museum of Crete or Cretaquarium). Focus on the role of teacher/teacher educator: consideration of children’s/teachers’ prior knowledge, skills and attitudes; teacher agency in interactions and inquiry-based activities with children; teacher as researcher. Focus on the use of materials and resources: multimedia materials, picture and story books, digital technologies, science education journals, self-reflection and self-evaluation tools. Workshops and Reflection Sessions.
5th DAY
Focus on contextual factors – time, grouping, location: time for early years science/mathematics, reflection, networking; working in groups; formal and non-formal learning settings. Workshops and Reflections Session. Participants develop educational activities. Finalisation of educational activities and action plan for their implementation.
6th DAY
Morning session: Participants’ Presentations. Evaluation of the Training Course and Follow-up. Closing session – Conclusions.
