Preparation
Prior to the beginning of the course, all participants will be able to familiarize themselves with the training course topics and course methodology by accessing the relevant resources and materials, the course structure and tools through a website developed for this purpose. Participants will also have access to a common online workspace where they will be able to download and upload educational materials. The organisers will provide the participants with most recent and updated educational and information materials as well as the most recent European reports in the fields of early years science, mathematics and creativity education.
The participants will be also asked to complete a series of tasks before attending the training course:
a) read a selection of literature resources on inquiry and creativity in early years science and mathematics education;
b) plan and/or describe an educational scenario describing an inquiry-based science or mathematics lesson or series of lessons they could carry out (or have already done so), which they would identify as “creative”. A template for the creation of educational scenarios structured to reflect the essential features of IBSE, accompanied by a guide document explaining the structure of the template and two examples will be provided;
c) identify possible obstacles in implementing the IBSE approach in their classroom and school;
d) reflect on the features of their scenario that make it a “creative” one. How does it facilitate children’s development of creativity?;
e) prepare a 7 min presentation (in electronic format) with their proposed educational pathway as well as reflections regarding its implementation.;
f) upload this presentation together with any relevant material to the shared course area by June 21st, 2013, and discuss during the course; and
g) read at least 2 presentations from other participants and be prepared to comment on them.
